Be Realistic

Before you begin setting your career goals for 2016, think about what is realistic for you to obtain in the coming 12 months. While you may not be able to get your master’s degree in that time, you can certainly begin the program or enroll yourself in classes. Remember that goals should be challenging, but achievable. Push yourself, but know your limits.

Keep it Specific

Outline your goals in a measurable way to be clear about when and what you want to accomplish. If you’re working towards a promotion, be specific about what that means for you. Are you looking for a job title change, a pay raise or increased job responsibility? If you have any large goals, break them up into smaller, bite-sized goals so that they are more manageable and easier to accomplish.

Share Your Goals

Sharing your goals will keep you accountable through the 365 days to come. Whether you share your goals by sending a copy to your family and friends, or publicly posting them on social media, doing so allows others to check in with you and keep you on track.
