2023 Hiring Trends for Employers

For 2023, employers anticipate their hiring needs will remain strong but 80% of employers also indicate that they are struggling to find new employees. Following are several trends that may impact an employer’s ability to hire new talent in a fiercely competitive environment.

  • Competition for Employees. Companies will need to offer attractive compensation packages, strong company cultures, and growth opportunities to stand out and attract the best candidates. Benefits for today’s employees include such things as health benefits, flex schedules, tuition reimbursement, family leave, professional development, and retirement benefits.

  • Hybrid Work Arrangements. The shift towards remote work has accelerated as a result of Covid-19 and the forms of hybrid employment being offered are expanding: rotating schedules, flexible schedules, split weeks, project-based work, and location-based work are just some of the hybrid work arrangements that employers are now offering. Employers will need to adapt their hiring processes to accommodate remote work while ensuring candidates that prefer in office arrangements are also comfortable.

  • Candidate Experience. Employers will need to prioritize candidate experience throughout the hiring process in order to attract and retain top talent. They need to communicate clearly with prospective candidates and streamline their application process. Employees particularly appreciate a positive interview experience with constructive feedback.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Employers will need to prioritize DEI initiatives in their hiring processes in order to attract and retain diverse talent. This includes implementing unbiased recruiting practices, offering DEI training for hiring managers, and ensuring that job descriptions are inclusive and free from bias.

  • Automation and AI. With advances in automation and artificial intelligence (AI), more employers are turning to these technologies to streamline their hiring processes. This includes using AI-powered screening tools to identify top candidates and automating administrative tasks such as scheduling interviews and sending follow-up emails.
